The Congress Party on Saturday lashed out at the BJP-led NDA Government for taking the ordinance route instead of the parliamentary route to re-promulgate the Land Acquisition bill.
"It is very surprising that the government of the day is taking the ordinance route on such an important bill. What is the hurry to bring ordinance? Whose land do they want to take over? We fail to understand this because in a democratic system, there is the Parliament route that could have been taken," Congress spokesperson Tom Vadakkan told ANI here.
"The attempt is to grab some land before they go to the Parliament. It will be opposed tooth and nail by the Congress Party," he added.
The Union Cabinet today approved re-promulgation of Land Acquisition ordinance.
Union Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told the media that a decision in this regard was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The ordinance is about to expire on June 3.
The Land Bill is currently with the Joint Committee of Parliament for detail discussion on the provisions of the controversial legislation. The Committee had its first meeting yesterday.
