Growing maturity helped in dealing with WT20 nightmare: Stokes

Weeks after being hit for four consecutive sixes against West Indies in the World T20 final, England all-rounder Ben Stokes has admitted that he was extremely devastated at that moment, but added that his growing maturity as a player helped him to deal with the situation.

A visibly shattered Stokes was left squatting with his head in his hands on the ground after he failed to replicate his death-bowling heroics, displayed during clashes against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, in the high-octane finale.

It was in the last over when West Indies required 19 more runs to win but Carlos Brathwaite produced his batting master class and hit the bowler for four successive sixes to steer his side to their second World T20 title.

Insisting that he is learning to cope a lot better in dreadful situations, Stokes said that he would have surely tortured himself if that kind of incident happened a few years ago, Sport24 reported.

The 24-year-old further revealed that he always fought his own battles on the field and tries to be a lot better than the other person, adding he just wants to win every game which he plays.

Stokes had been a part of several on-field feud over the past year, most notably with West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels.

Stokes, however, played a crucial run in England's run to the final by claiming four wickets and five catches in the T20 format's pinnacle event.
