Did you know World No. 1 badminton player Carolina Marin has no favourite player in the game?
Yes, it is true, but Marin does have an icon whom she reveres-Rafael Nadal her compatriot and the fourteen-time Grand Slam champion.
"I don't have any favourite player in badminton but my icon is Rafael Nadal," the Spaniard told exclusively to ANI.
Indians would have known very little about the world number one until she defeated PV Sindhu in the Rio Olympics 2016 final to clinch Gold in the women's singles event.
On August 19, 2016, Sindhu, after producing a spirited fight-back to clinch the first game, failed to capitalize on it and went on to lose the next two games with a big margin against Marin in the summit clash of the prestigious quadrennial event.
The Spaniard took about one hour and 20 minutes to outclass Sindhu, the two-time bronze medallist at the World Championship, 19-21, 21-12, 21-15 and seal a gold medal in a nerve-wracking summit showdown.
Talking about how life has changed after the Rio feat, Marin says, "My life has changed a lot after Rio. People recognise me in Spain. I feel very happy that I have open that way to show in Spain that they are more than football and everyone is following badminton and also me.
