In order to highlight rich prospects of development in the northeast and to discuss various issues concerning the region, young achievers gathered at a conference here recently.
The third edition of the Young Leaders Connect Conference at the Guwahati Medical College auditorium was attended by young leaders and achievers from diverse fields of the northeast region.
Centered on the theme of "Branding North east: Speaking for ourselves", the conference focused on highlighting positive achievements of the region.
Held under the aegis of Youth Net, a Nagaland based non-profit organization, the event was graced by personalities like filmmaker Prakash Jha, boxing Icon Mary Kom, Mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa and
football player Baichung Bhutia.
" I have got lot of recognition and I am happy for that. I am thankful for the love and support I have received from my state, the northeast region and from all over India. It is only because of them that I have reached this level," said boxer Mary Kom.
"One of the major contribution of northeast and we are known as being one of the most sporting region in India. When sportspersons like Mary Kom or anybody else are coming today on their won determination and hard work, I think it is time for the northeast government to put in effort and develop more Mary Kom and Dinko Singh for tomorrow," added football player Baichung Bhutia .
The event aimed to develop a positive outlook about the northeast and laid stress on the untapped potential that the region holds in terms of cultural heritage, natural resources and human capital.
As a part of the programme, several panel discussions, interactive sessions and cultural events were organised. Such events are essential to bring people onto one platform for and work towards the region's development.
