Five of a Noida-based family on Sunday allegedly committed suicide in Ranchi, Jharkhand, owing to the threats received from their daughter-in-law, police said.
However, head of the family Sukhanto Sarkar, a retired army doctor, is under observation at RIMS hospital.
"At the prima facie, we were able to ascertain that the family was getting threatened by their daughter-in-law. Harassed by the threats, they took this extreme step. It appears to be suicidal, however, it will only be confirmed once the autopsy report is out," Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikas Srivastav told ANI.
Srivastva said that their daughter-in-law was alleging false allegations against them.
Meanwhile, police has initiated probe on the matter.
