Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday announced that Jind and Karnal districts of Haryana and Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh have been included in the National Capital Region (NCR).
In his opening remarks in the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCPRB) meeting in New Delhi this afternoon, Naidu said there has been an unprecedented scale of urbanisation in Delhi.
He further said that even though Delhi witnessed high population growth in the 80s and 90s, the growth has come down during the last decade.
Naidu attributed this to proper regional planning as people now reside in neighbouring NCR.
He said NCRPB is an important mechanism for development of the region and that all member states of NCRPB, Delhi, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan should be pro active in ensuring development of the region.
Naidu said the Centre is willing to go an extra mile to meet the needs of the states.
The NCPRB meeting was attended by Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Representatives and government officials of other member states were also present in the meeting.
Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain was representing the Delhi government.
