Serena Williams, who lost to Germany's Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon Women single's final, said that the match was dedicated to her fellow mothers.
Serena competed in the finals of the tournament about 10 months after giving birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia, reported E! Online.
She is also the first mother to reach a Wimbledon's final in 38 years.
Wimbledon posted a post-match interview of Serena Williams from their official Twitter handle, where she said that it was a great tournament for her.
"To all the moms out there, I was playing for you today," she said.
"It was such an amazing tournament for me. I was really happy to get this far. It's obviously disappointing but I can't be disappointed. I have so much to look forward to. I'm literally just getting started, so I look forward to it," she added.
Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, posted a loving message on Instagram and said that she will once again turn out to be the Wimbledon champion.
He wrote, "Days after our baby girl was born, I kissed my wife goodbye before surgery and neither of us knew if she would be coming back. We just wanted her to survive-10 months later, she's in the #Wimbledon final. Congratulations, @angie.kerber. @serenawilliams will be holding a trophy again soon-she's got the greatest one waiting at home for her. Our family knows she'll win many more trophies, too. She's just getting started. And I couldn't be more proud."
Serena suffered complications, including a pulmonary embolism, that led to several surgeries, after giving birth to her daughter via C-section. She was bedridden for six weeks after her baby was born.
At Wimbledon, she wore special compression leggings as a precaution.
