The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday seconded Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's stand against the erection of statues of Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse in the capital.
"Gandhiji is respected around the world and the home minister has rightly condemned those who are trying to glorify his assassin," said Memon.
According to reports, Singh has made a statement against the building of statues of Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse. "Gandhiji is the father of our nation, I am against putting up statues of Godse," the BJP leader said.
Earlier, Hindu Mahasabha Chandra Prakash Kaushik, in a letter to the government, had demanded that statues of Nathuram Godse be erected at public places all over New Delhi, including iconic roads such as Mandir Marg.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had chosen to maintain his silence despite demand from various parties to express his views on the matter.
