Australian batsman Phil Hughes could be in line for a surprise Test recall if Shaun Marsh becomes the latest player to be ruled out of the tour of South Africa due to injury.
Hughes' with two hundreds and a double century has scored 549 first-class runs this season at an average of 61.
Marsh's calf injury isn't serious, but given his chequered history, the West Australian batsman has been kept back in Perth for further treatment in case his body doesn't respond in time.
Fast bowler Jackson Bird (back) is another squad member who won't travel with the rest of the squad on Wednesday. He'll remain in Hobart bowling in the nets.
Marsh was considered fortunate to get selected ahead of Hughes in the original squad, news.com.au reports.
