United States President Donald Trump seems to be extending the hand of friendship to Pyongyang as he said he tries 'so hard' to become North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's 'friend.'

"Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me "old," when I would NEVER call him "short and fat?" Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!" Trump tweeted.

North Korea on Saturday called Trump as "destroyer" who "begged for nuclear war" during his tour of Asia.

Trump had warned North Korea on Wednesday to not underestimate the United States as he wrapped up his visit to South Korea.

North Korean state media had recently said that "no-one can predict when the lunatic old man of the White House, lost to sense, will start a nuclear war," referring to Trump's aggressive rhetoric against Kim Jong-un.

Trump and Kim have engaged in name-calling in recent months as tensions between the two countries increase over Pyongyang's threat of a nuclear attack.

Trump threatened to rain "fire and fury" on North Korea and also called Kim Jong-un as "Little Rocket Man", while Kim labelled Trump as a "mentally deranged US dotard.
