Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday said that he has now decided not to contest the Maharashtra assembly polls.

"Things were different earlier but now I have decided not to contest the polls myself," said Thackeray.

Thackeray had earlier in May this year made a major announcement by declaring his intention to contest the Maharashtra assembly elections scheduled to be held later this year.

He had also said that if his party MNS wins the assembly polls then he will become the state's Chief Minister.

Maharashtra is slated to hold assembly elections in October this year to elect a new 288-member Maharashtra assembly.
