ICC 'helpless' over 'crisis' India tour scheduling issues

The ICC reportedly can do nothing about the current fiasco over the scheduling of India's upcoming tour to South Africa as it has no jurisdiction over the global tour programme between 2012 and 2020, which it itself set up.

According to Sport24, India was scheduled to tour South Africa from November 21 to January 19 for three Tests, two Twenty20 internationals and seven ODIs, although recent reports state that the BCCI wants India to play the bare minimum of matches required to fulfill commitments under the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP).

The report said that the ICC is helpless in this regard as it has no jurisdiction over the global tour programme, with the determined dates resting with the countries that organised the tours.

However, the report mentioned that the only condition of the ICC is that teams must play at least 16 Tests every four years, which is an average of four per year.

According to the report, a series will consist of the minimum amount of games: two Tests and three ODIs, if countries do not agree on the amount of Tests, ODIs and T20s.

The report also said that the BCCI's tiff with South Africa stems from BCCI chairperson Narayanaswami Srinivasan's personal feud with newly appointed CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat, who angered the Indian board during his tenure as ICC chief when he refused to budge to their demands and also for his positive stance towards the decision review system (DRS).
