After the International Court of Justice (ICJ) stayed Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav's hanging in Pakistan, External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj said she spoke to former Indian naval officer's mother about the ICJ's order.

Tweeting about the development, Swaraj informed that senior advocate Harish Salve was representing India before the International Court of Justice in the case.

"I have spoken to the mother of #KulbhushanJadhav and told her about the order of President, ICJ under Art 74 Paragraph 4 of Rules of Court," she tweeted.

"Mr.Harish Salve, Senior Advocate is representing India before International Court of Justice in the #KulbhushanJadhav case," she said in a series of tweet.

The development came after an appeal from India, which accused Pakistan of "egregious violations of the Vienna Convention" and sought a stay on Jadhav's death sentence.

Pakistan had claimed that Jadhav was arrested from the Balochistan province last year.

A military court sentenced him to death, alleging he was involved in espionage and anti-national activities.

This led to an outrage in India and other countries which criticised Pakistan for sentencing Jadhav to death with formally informing India.

India outrightly denied the claims saying he was kidnapped from Iran where he was running a business, and adding he was a retired Navy officer.

Pakistan has turned down 16 requests from India for consular access to Jadhav.
