Punk godfather Iggy Pop has said that the way music is being consumed today is "immoral".

The 67-year old musician asserted that the music industry was now "laughably, maybe, almost entirely pirate" and electronic devices had "estranged people from their morals that made it easier to steal music than to pay for it, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The frontman of Iggy and the Stooges said that music had largely become a "patronage system" in which someone else including filmmakers or advertisers were paying musicians for their tunes.

Pop added that he did not worry too much about how much he got paid for any given thing, because he never expected much in the first place and the whole industry had become bloated in its expectations.
