A group of eight probationers and 20 officers of the Indian Trade Service called on President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here today .

Addressing the officers, the President said that Indian economy has undergone major changes over the years. No policy can be considered relevant for all times. That system is dynamic which has the flexibility to change with changing times. Therefore, our policies should contribute in helping the flexibility and dynamism of the economy so that it grows.

The President said that foreign trade over the years has been playing an important role in the Indian economy. Exports have continued to be the major focus of India's foreign trade policy. With enhanced e-governance in DGFT and the changing role of DGFT itself, the officers would now have to act as trade facilitators and not only as regulators. Trade facilitation has to be carried out at every stage, from designing a scheme to grant of benefits to exporters through these schemes. As trade facilitators, the ITS officers would be able to give new impetus to our economic requirements.

The eight probationers of Indian Trade Service are presently undergoing training at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi while 20 officers are working at different parts of the country.
