Australian Ashes hero Ryan Harris has reportedly chosen to forego the lucrative Champions League tournament in order to have a much-needed rest before the return Ashes series begin in Australia in November.
According to News.com.au, the Australian spearhead, who has been his team's most valuable Ashes asset against England, has been sidelined for six to eight weeks with a hamstring strain although he termed it as a 'precautionary move'.
Stating that the decision to miss next month's Champions League for Brisbane Heat and one-day tour to India during October was 'rightfully Cricket Australia's (CA) call', Harris, who has been grounded by knee, ankle, shoulder and Achilles injuries over the past three years, has rated his latest his latest ailment as 'a blip on the radar'.
However, Harris, who hurt his hamstring on the final day of the fifth Test at The Oval, said that he was being cautious with his injury, adding that a charge to the boundary while fielding late in the drawn final Test at The Oval aggravated an injury that he initially did not believe would mean any time away from play.
According to the report, a worst-case scenario would leave Harris under a month to gain match fitness with Queensland ahead of the return Ashes bout with England from November 21 at the Gabba.
