Injury-prone Australian batsman Shaun Marsh has said he is confident that he has got over his 'demons' of two years ago and is now in a better mental shape than before.
Although the left-hander scored a century during his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2011, followed by 81 in his next innings, his career went into free fall after he was forced out of his next series against South Africa with an injury, following which he scored just 14 runs in his next seven Test innings before being axed.
According to News.com.au, however, Marsh has reinvented himself with the assistance of former Test opener and Western Australian coach Justin Langer, evident in his 304 runs during the recent Ryobi Cup, and the player said that he has learned a lot and got over his mess of two years ago.
Marsh further said that he is sure that he can be better than before if he is given an opportunity to perform again, adding that his performance from two seasons ago showed him that a player needs to be 100 per cent mentally on top of his game, which he was not at that time as he had a few distractions away from cricket.
Marsh has the chance to stake his claim for a spot in the opening Ashes Test at the Gabba and is one of a number of batsman around the country looking to push for the No.6 spot, alongside Usman Khawaja, Alex Doolan and George Bailey, the report added.
