International football fraternity flood Twitter with tributes for late Vilanova

The international football fraternity have joined hands in pouring their tributes for former Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova, who passed away at the age of 45 after losing a long battle with throat cancer.

The Catalan giants announced the death of Vilanova, who was forced to stand down as boss of the club and was replaced by Gerardo Martino, a day after the former footballer underwent emergency surgery.

According to Metro.co.uk, the club, which has opened a space in the main grandstand for people to express their condolences, offered its condolences to the bereaved family and reiterated a respect for their desire for the 'strictest intimacy' in the moments after Vilanova's death.

Tributes from the footballing world, including Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Frimpong, Michael Essien, Luis Garcia, Samir Nasri, Gerard Deulofeu, Juan Mata, Dejan Lovren and Luis Suarez, poured in across Twitter for the late Vilanova.

West Bromwich Albion boss Pepe Mel offered his last respects to a 'great professional, companion and friend' while Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero said that his 'heart is heavy' after learning of Vilanova's passing.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea tweeted that Vilanova's fight against the disease is an example for all, while West Ham United player Adrian hoped that the world can soon make a progress against cancer.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho also offered his tributes on behalf of the club, saying that Vilanova's passing is a sad day for football, for Barcelona and most importantly for his family and friends.
