International journalists stationed outside Pretoria hospital where Nelson Mandela is receiving treatment for life threatening lung infection, were warned by the Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA) over their use of unlicensed broadcast equipment.

According to News24, ICASA spokesperson Jubie Matlou said that some of the journalists were using equipments which were not licensed and any equipment brought in the country for broadcast has to be cleared by the authorities.

Matlou said that the equipments need clearance by the authorities in order to avoid the interference with frequencies used by local, licensed servers.

According to the report, the offenders were identified and were issued warning by ICASA to get the equipments cleared by the authorities.

ICASA will be addressing to the clearance applications from Thursday, the report added.
