Islamic State (IS) militant group may be on their way to Afghanistan just weeks after the U.S. ended its 13 year long combat operation in the country, with a former Guantanamo Bay inmate said to be involved in the recruiting effort.
According to Fox News, the recruiter has been identified to be a former a Taliban commander Mullah Abdul Rauf who was released from Guantanamo Bay in 2007.
Saifullah Sanginwal, a tribal leader in Sangin district said that he has raised black flags and brought down white Taliban flags in some areas.
Republican lawmakers have said following these incidents that drawing down so quickly could leave Afghanistan vulnerable like Iraq where IS has taken over large swathes.
U.S. officials said that they did not have evidence that Afghan residents have joined the Islamic State.
