'It's PM's job to prevent others from indulging in corruption': Amit Shah

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday sought to corner former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on the issue of corruption during the decade-long UPA rule, saying it is the Prime Minister's job to not let anyone indulge in corruption.

"As far as the matter between Manmohan Singh ji and Baijal is concerned, I don't want to get into it. But I believe that a Prime Minister should not just be non-corrupt himself, he should also not

let others indulge in corruption," said Shah.

"Under the leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the country saw scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore. How can the Congress run away from this responsibility?" he asked.

The BJP president reiterated that more than Rs two lakh crore had been added to the country's coffers by the auction of 229 coal mines this time.

"By the auction of 229 coal mines, more than Rs two lakh crore has been added to the nation's treasury, this shows there was a tremendous loss before. There was a huge loss earlier, even more than the CAG calculated," said Shah.

Dr. Singh had earlier today criticised the NDA Government and said that the BJP keeps on harping about corruption simply because it wants to detract the attention of people to other non-issues.

He also said that he had never used his public office to enrich himself, his family or friends.
