The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Sunday rescued over 1,000 pilgrims from the Ghangaria-Hemkund Sahib route in Uttarakhand.

The pilgrims were stranded as various bridges on the rivers were washed away due to heavy rains that lashed the area this week.

Heavy rains in the state have also triggered landslides at various places, thereby, affecting the vehicular movement of the pilgrims.

The ITBP also rescued a dog from Lakshman Ganga river in Uttarakhand's Ghangarial district.
