Former Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Jagmeet Brar today clarified his remarks on party president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi.

Criticising the media for misquoting him, Brar said that he is disappointed that the statement has unnecessarily been sensationalized to hide the truth.

"I had put forward a question for the greater cause of Congress, in front of the nation and the Congress member, that the party's 130 years of history and its worst drubbing in 2014 Lok Sabha elections should be considered and looked upon with great concern. Entity committee report should come forward; the workers should be able to read it and come to know the decision," said Brar.

"I never advised anyone to go on a break. I am nobody to ask for removal of Rahul and Sonia from their positions. I said that if they both will sacrifice their position and go on India tour to strengthen their party, then with their help the party can again come to power," he added.

Brar also said, "I will always stand by the truth that we need to unite and strengthen the Congress party in the whole country."

He added that he had also asked for the resignation of some of the party members because he wanted somebody to claim responsibility for the 2014 Lok Sabha debacle.

"The truth is that within the Congress party somebody had the courage to say that please go for reforms, we need them," said Brar.

Jagmeet Brar was quoted as saying on Friday that there was no harm if Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi took two years off and handed over the reins of the party to a newer leadership. The remarks sparked immense criticism for him from party leaders.
