Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa met Minister of State (Independent Charge) for commerce & Industry Nirmala Sitharaman here today, during which both leaders discussed prominent issues concerning the state, including extension of freight corridor to Tuticorin and initiatives to give impetus to Tami Nadu's export oriented industries.
Union Ministers Pon Radhakrishnan and Nirmala Sitharaman met Jayalalithaa at Tamil Nadu house here, where the Chief Minster would be staying during her day-long Delhi Visit.
"We also discussed in the freight corridor from Vishakapatnam, which needs to be taken till Tuticorin. We had such a proposal and the Chief Minister welcomed it. She said she is willing to cooperate," Sitharam told Media here.
"I also suggested extending the freight road till Kerala border, which she has accepted. We also held discussion to give impetus to Tami Nadu's export oriented industries," she added.
Earlier today, Jayalalithaa met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during which she raised several matters of her states' interest, including exemption from NEET and a request to prevent Karnataka from building dam across Mekedatu.
The AIADMK supremo, who arrived in the national capital this morning, also raised the matter of amendments to the GST Bill and gave a 29-point memorandum to the Prime Minister.
This is Jayalalithaa's first visit to the national capital after assuming the office for a second consecutive term.
The Chief Minister will be returning to Chennai today.
