A judge in Tennessee has ordered that the name of a 7-month-old boy be changed from Messiah to Martin saying that the religious name solely belonged to Jesus Christ.

The boy's parents were in court because they could not agree on the child's last name, but the Child Support Magistrate ruled last week that his first name should also be changed, Fox News reported.

The judge said that the baby was to be named Martin DeShawn McCullough, which includes both parents' last name, as the name 'Messiah' could cause problems if the child grows up in Cocke County, which has a large Christian population.

The judge added that the word Messiah is a title and it has only been earned by one person, Jesus Christ.

Jaleesa Martin, the boy's mother said she will appeal as the name 'Messiah' is unique had it sounded well alongside the boy's two siblings-Micah and Mason.

She added that everyone is allowed to have their beliefs so she should be allowed to name her child as per her choice.

Messiah was No. 4 among the fastest-rising baby names in 2012, according to the Social Security Administration's annual list of popular baby names.
