Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal was attacked by an unidentified man on Friday in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri area during his road show.
According to media reports, the man hit Kejriwal on his neck.
The assailant, however, was overpowered and assaulted by AAP activists.
After the attack, Kejriwal said that he has always expected this kind of violent reaction from his opponents. He said that it was reflective of their true character and their high level of desperation.
He, however, said that the retaliation by his supporters was wrong and that he did expect them to behave in this manner.
