Kerry says Assad crossed 'global red line' following chemical weapons use

US Secretary of State John Kerry has said he and Arab League foreign ministers have agreed that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's alleged use of chemical weapons crossed a 'global red line'.

Kerry, speaking in Paris, is in Europe to muster support for action against Assad.

According to the BBC, he said that Assad's deplorable use of chemical weapons crossed an international, global red line.

Assad has reportedly again denied any link to the attack.

In an interview for a US broadcaster, Assad also reportedly suggested that there would be some kind of retaliation if America strikes his country.

Kerry seemed to suggest some of the Arab nations he met in Paris would also be announcing their support for his statement within days.

He said the United States now had the backing of a number of countries into the double digits, although a list had not been made public, the report added.
