Kerry Washington to be honored with GLAAD Vanguard Award

Kerry Washington will be honored with Vanguard Award by GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, it has been reported.

GLAAD's president Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement that throughout the American actrress' illustrious career, she has consistently brought to life characters that encouraged acceptance of LGBT people, E! Online reported.

Ellis continued that Washington's outspoken support for equality, both here at home and abroad, had send messages of hope and empowerment to fans all over the world, fostering dialogue that builds understanding and helps moves hearts and minds.

The LGBT media watchdog group gives the award to media professionals who have made a significant difference in promoting equality.

Jennifer Lopez, Charlize Theron, Drew Barrymore, Antonio Banderas, Janet Jackson and Kristin Chenoweth have been previously honored with the award.

The 26th annual fete will be held March 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
