The Madras High Court on Tuesday sought a reply from the Tamil Nadu Government on the petition filed by Kovan's son alleging that the police tried to detain his father under National Security Act.

Seeking a reply, the court has adjourned the case till November 17th.

Kovan, a 45-year-old folk singer from Trichy, was arrested last week after he criticised Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK Government and its liquor policy in a song.

Kovan had attacked the state government in his controversial song, saying while the state was reeling from the influence of alcohol, the Chief Minister was enjoying.

The song 'Oorkku oorkku sarayam' mocks liquor shops run by the state government in Tamil Nadu.

Around 250 people of the People Power Organisation had yesterday staged a protest and demanded his release.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) cadres headed by president EVKS Elangovan had also held a protest demanding liquor prohibition in the state. They also demanded Kovan's immediate release.
