The chief of the terror organisation Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) was killed by security forces in an intelligence-based operation in Killi Almas area of Balochistan on Thursday, as per a statement from the Pakistan Army's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The operation was conducted after security forces received intelligence after a top terrorist was earlier arrested. According to the intelligence, it noted the presence of the chief of the LeJ terror outfit and suicide bombers at a hideout in Balochistan, Express Tribune reported.

The ISPR further said that during the operation, two suicide bombers were also killed and one terrorist was injured, who has been arrested by the security forces.

"The provincial head of the terrorist group (LeJ) was identified as Salman Badeni, and security forces claimed he was involved in the killing of over 100 members of the Hazara community. The would-be suicide bombers were identified as Afghani nationals," the ISPR added.

During the operation, a Pakistani army soldier, Colonel Sohail Abid was killed, while four others were injured.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed his condolences over the death of Colonel Abid.

"Our soldiers have paid the price of freedom with blood and there is no higher sacrifice than it. We as a nation are united than ever against the coward enemy," Abbasi said.

His funeral prayers were done in Vehari town of Punjab Province on Thursday.
