Searches were conducted at two residences of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak by Police teams in Kuala Lumpur, on the night of May 16.

The search operation stretched till the next morning.

It is unclear why cops were still present at Najib's home in Taman Duta till 8am on May 17, when the operation was completed at around 4 am, Strait Times reported.

Police officers were spotted with several boxes from Najib's condominium, Pavilion Residences, while stuff like handbags and clothes were taken from Taman Duta.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigations Department director Amar Singh that police performed searches on five locations belonging or connected to Najib.

Police confirmed that no arrests have been made and there was no indication that there will be an arrest.

Since 2015, Najib has been embroiled in a multibillion-dollar scandal alleged to be 1MDB funds. It appeared in his personal accounts before the election in 2013.

However, he has denied any wrongdoing.

The new Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on May 15 that he is confident prosecutors will soon have a strong case against him.

As a result of the surveillance, Najib and his wife have been barred from leaving the country for now.
