Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has said that the squad is presently going through a period of transition and is likely to face more "pain" before things get better.
Rodgers said that the squad needed improvement, adding that the team had unfortunately lost a number of its key players to injuries.
According to the BBC, last year's runners-up have won only two of their first six Premier League matches and lost 1-0 to Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday.
When questioned if he was faced with the biggest challenge of his managerial career, Rodgers shrugged it off saying it was an exciting challenge and an incredible job and that nothing had changed.
He said that while the first six months were difficult, for 18 months the team had been on a magic carpet ride in terms of its performance level and everything improving.
He added that for him it would have been a case of keeping the squad and adding a few bodies to thicken up the squad.
