Residents of the small island nation in the Indian Ocean, Maldives, have reportedly witnessed a 'low-flying jumbo jet,' on the same morning that the ill-fated Malaysian Airline passenger jet went off radar.

The sightings of the suspected plane were reported about 700 kilometres southwest of Sri Lanka, offering some consistencies with the missing flight MH370.

According to stuff.co.nz, eyewitnesses reported of a large plane with white and red stripes, which are hallmark of Malaysian Airlines fleet of jets.

The residents claimed that the plane made an incredibly loud noise as it flew over the island of Kuda Huvadhoo at about 6.15am on March 8, the same day when MH370 went off radar.

One witness said that he has never seen a jet flying so low over the island before, adding that he has seen seaplanes before, but he was sure that the low-flying plane wasn't one of those, and he could even make out the doors of the plane clearly.

Mohamed Zaheem, the island councillor of Kuda Huvadhoo, revealed that other residents had also spoken of the incident.

Meanwhile, an IT expert Anoop Madhav Yeggina has claimed to have found an unconfirmed satellite photo of MH370, over the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal.

Yeggina said that the standard scale measurement and colour of the missing plane matched with that of the plane in the image.

Carrying 239 people onboard, the MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur and went off radar just 40 minutes later and various theories have emerged since the mysterious disappearance, including sea crash, plane hijack and pilot suicide.
