Speaking on the occasion, Mukherjee expressed his happiness at seeing the extraordinary display of the art and traditions of the tribal population of the region.

He said that it is from a clearer understanding of traditional societies and their culture, their religious beliefs and day to day rituals, their occupations and handicrafts and from the depictions in their various art forms that we can better appreciate the dynamics of our nation's evolution and the greatness of its ancient civilization.

Mukherjee congratulated the Government of Madhya Pradesh for protecting, promoting and disseminating so many facets of the tribal traditions of Madhya Pradesh, and said he was confident that this one of a kind museum would serve as a resource centre for researchers, scholars, students exploring various aspects of tribal culture and daily life.

"It can also serve as a very useful focal point for facilitating a dialogue and mutual exchange between tribal and urban societies," he added.
