Defending champions Manchester City scintillated a stellar performance to record an emphatic 5-0 win over Newcastle, and reduced Chelsea's advantage to five points in the Premier League table on Saturday at Etihad Stadium.
Star striker Sergio Aguero put City ahead in the first minute as he netted home a penalty before midfielder Samir Nasri doubled the lead with a clinical finish from Edin Dzeko's cross in the 12th minute, the BBC reported.
Dzeko struck for the first time since September after an injury-ravaged season to give Manuel Pellegrini's side a strong 3-0 lead in the 21st minute.
Subsequently, Spaniard David Silva scored a brace shortly after the resumption of play in the second-half to give City an unassailable 5-0 lead.
The match also saw the return of veteran midfielder Yaya Toure from the Africa Cup of Nations.
