A man was gunned down by security personnel on Saturday when he tried to forcibly enter former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah's residence here.
As per the police, the man, who entered in an SUV, sped past the security personnel at the VIP gate of Abdullah's residence, and got into a scuffle with the officers on duty, barged into his residence and vandalised his property.
"The intruder breached the main gate and went inside. He had a scuffle with the duty officers there. One duty officer was also injured. After that, he entered the residence causing damage inside the property. Subsequently, he was shot dead," said Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vivek Gupta.
"The deceased, Murfas Shah, is a resident of Poonch," Jammu Inspector-general (IG) SD Singh Jamwal told ANI.
Meanwhile, the father of the deceased questioned why his son was shot, rather than being arrested at the gate itself.
"He (Murfas) was with me last night. He goes to the gym daily and left for that today. I want to know why he was killed. Where were the security guards when he breached the gate? Why didn't they arrest him?" he asked.
However, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel said Murfas did not pay heed to any warnings and barged through the gate.
The body of the deceased has been retrieved, and his vehicle is being examined.
Further details are awaited.
