Premier League winners Manchester United is reportedly hoping that a successful 85 million-pound swoop for Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale by Real Madrid can rescue their bid to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
Although Real president Florentino Perez has claimed that Ronaldo will pen a new deal but the Portuguese superstar has yet to make his mind up on his future, The Sun reports.
With Perez hinting that Real is ready to make a world record bid for Bale, who will be the perfect replacement for Ronaldo, United is confident that despite interest from money bags Paris St Germain, Ronaldo will only sign for them if he leaves Spain.
According to the report, United will offer Real 65 million pounds plus a player like Nani or Javier Hernandez if they get the green light from Ronaldo.
Perez, who has smashed the transfer record four times to get Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Kaka and Ronaldo, said that for those players and investments that generate income, one can give everything in life, although he said that he is keeping Bale's possible move-out in the wraps so as not to annoy Tottenham, which is a friendly club.
Perez, whose main priority remains getting Ronaldo on a new deal with only two years left on his current contract, further said that he would like to bet that Ronaldo would retire at Real Madrid.
