Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said that for him, beating Liverpool is always 'special' because of who he is and where he comes from, but for a club like Manchester United it cannot be just about-stopping Liverpool.

Rooney, who reportedly grew up to become Old Trafford's favourite 'Scouser', joined the youth team of Everton at nine and later went on to make his professional debut with the same team at the age of 16 in 2002.

According to the Mirror, Rooney said that if Liverpool win the Premier League, it would be down to the fact that they are the best team in the country and no one at United will like that, but they will still have to respect them for the achievement.

Rooney further added that they want to win because of what it means to them and said that the club's matches against Liverpool in the Premier League, Olympiakos in the Champions League and next week against Manchester City would go a long way to 'shaping' their season.

Rooney also said that the club still has not given up on the fourth place and are thinking that a tie against Olympiakos is 'retrievable', but they have to be realistic and beat Liverpool as the club is running out of games.

The United striker said that if the club wins it would boost their confidence that the season is 'still alive' and United has always relished a 'big challenge' like this, the report added.
