Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday said that Manipur has seen some of the worst governments of Congress and added that the party while in power in Manipur, has broken all records of corruption
"Manipur has seen some of the worst governments of Congress and the Congress government in Manipur has broken all records in corruption," said Modi
"Insurgency and infiltration is the biggest problems of north-east region and so is drug. Even pregnant women have been killed in encounters in Manipur and the northeast region has fallen prey to divisive forces and drug trafficking," he said.
"In fact the prime minster represents the north east region in the Rajya Sabha, yet he has not been able to do anything for the development of this region," he said.
He also said that Manipur had got nothing out of 60 years out of 60 years of Congress rule.
"You gave Congress 60 years, did you gain anything out of it. The much talked about National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) too has failed in Manipur, even the Panchayati system is not working here," said Modi.
"The situation is even worse when it comes to the supply of water and electricity," he said.
He further promised to bring the northeast at par with the other regions in India.
"A big part of our territory is being conceded to our neighbors. We cannot let this happen. I promise to bring northeast region at par with other regions of India," Modi said.
"India will prosper only when the north-east will," he added.
