Congress leader Manish Tewari condemned the government for having initialized the dialog with the Pakistan in first place, calling the government's decision to call off Foreign Secretary level talks with Pakistan as "knee-jerk diplomacy".
Tewari said, "Didn't government know that Pakistan is encouraging terrorism against India? Were they not aware of the ceasefire violations?"
He added, "Didn't they know that Hafeez Saeed's name has been dropped from the 26/11 chargesheet? Were they not aware of the attitude of separatists towards Kashmir? If they had this knowledge then why did they initiate the dialogue with Pakistan in first place."
"This knee- jerk diplomacy shows that they do not have any clear policy towards Pakistan," he added.
Earlier today, India cancelled the upcoming bilateral talks between the two countries after the Pakistani High Commissioner invited separatist leaders for talks.
