The United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May will meet the United States President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit in Davos next week, the Downing Street announced on Saturday.

The Sky News reported that both the leaders are expected to meet for bilateral talks in the sidelines of the summit.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement, "The President (Trump) is looking forward to meeting Mrs May to further strengthen the US-UK special relationship. We are working on the dates and the talks will happen within few days."

This comes days after Trump announced last week that he had cancelled his trip to London, which was scheduled in February to open a new US embassy there and blamed his predecessor Barack Obama for crafting a "bad deal".

"Reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for "peanuts", only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!" Trump wrote on Twitter.

May invited Trump for a state visit when she became the first world leader to visit the US President in the White House a year ago.

Both the leaders clashed in November last year when the latter condemned his decision to re-tweet anti-Muslim propaganda from a far-right group, Britain First.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Trump may meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Davos.

The WEF summit will be held in Davos on January 23. Prime Minister Modi is expected to address a keynote speech at the plenary session.
