New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has become the first player from his country to score a triple century in Test cricket, during the ongoing Test against India at Wellington on the fifth day.

Guiding a delivery from veteran Indian bowler Zaheer Khan through gully for four at the Basin Reserve Tuesday morning, McCullum made the highest individual score by a New Zealander in Test cricket, going past the 299 former Kiwi player Martin Crowe also made on the Basin, against Sri Lanka in 1991.

According to Stuff.co.nz, McCullum has also earned a spot on the list for a player ever scoring double and triple centuries in consecutive Tests along with Sir Donald Bradman and Walter Hammond, who made their individual milestones in the 1930s.

With 25 minutes to lunch, the captain declared with his team at 680/8 - New Zealand's highest ever test innings, setting India 435 to win in 67 overs, the report added.
