A number of Congress Ministers and MLAs' from outside the Telangana region are likely to resign by Thursday evening in the wake of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) giving its approval to the creation of a separate state of Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.
After a United Andhra Leaders Meeting here on Thursday, Andhra Pradesh's Irrigation Minister T G Venkatesh confirmed that coastal Rayalseema MLAs' would submit their resignations by this evening, if the status quo were changed.
"All coastal Rayalseema MLAs' unanimously decided that they want to submit their resignations over one cause that it should be a united Andhra Pradesh," he told media here today.
According to television reports, at least 14 Congress ministers and 30 legislators are likely to resign in Andhra Pradesh over the central government's decision to bifurcate the state.
The leaders are likely to meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy today.
Earlier, reports stated that at least four ministers from Andhra Pradesh had handed over their resignations to Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy in protest against Congress' decision to create a new Telangana state and six party MLAs have also quit.
