Pakistani captain Misbah-ul Haq said that their victory in the third and final Test against Sri Lanka is a fitting farewell for coach Dav Whatmore, whose two-year tenure ended after the match.

Pakistan clinched a thrilling five-wicket win in the third Test in fading light in Sharjah, chasing their second best target in all Tests of 302 with nine balls to spare, which levelled the three-match series at 1-1 and gave Whatmore a winning send-off.

According to Sport24, Misbah said that it was a much-wanted win, especially for the departing Whatmore, who coached Sri Lanka to World Cup glory in 1996 before taking over for Pakistan in March 2012.

Although the former Australian batsman failed to help Pakistan win a Test series, given their loss to South Africa (2013) and Sri Lanka (2012) and drawing the remaining three, however, Misbah said that his team enjoyed Whatmore's coaching.

Pakistan, set a five-plus run an over, owed their win to a brilliant 103 by Azhar Ali, Misbah's 68 not out and 48 by Sarfraz Ahmed, while Sri Lanka was bowled out for 214 in their second innings.

The first Test ended in a draw in Abu Dhabi, the report added.
