Actor- turned Trinamool Congress (TMC) nominated lawmaker Mithun Chakraborty on Monday tendered his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari citing health issues.
TMC leader Derek O'Brien confirmed the news to ANI.
"He resigned from Rajya Sabha on health grounds. We continue to share warm relationship with him and his family. We wish him speedy recovery,' said Brien.
Mithun joined the Parliament and became an MP after he was nominated to the Upper House by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Last year, Mithun's name was dragged in connection with the multi-crore Saradha scam where he was questioned twice by the Enforcement Directorate.
