Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is a challenge for BJP stalwart Lal Krishna Advani and the saffron outfit, and not for the ruling party at the Centre.
"If Narendra Modi is a challenge, than he is a challenge for Advaniji and his party, not for us," he told media here.
The Congress leader's remark came just days after the infighting within the BJP following Modi's anointment as the prime ministerial candidate came to the fore with Advani appearing to be a stumbling block in the way of the Gujarat Chief Minister's elevation.
Advani, however, yesterday broke his silence and appreciated Modi's Gujarat development model at a rally in Chhattisgarh.
"Responsibility given to him (Modi) by party, if it comes true, then development done in the BJP-ruled states will happen across nation," he said, while silencing all critics who were of the view that he is upset over the BJP's decision to anoint Modi as the prime ministerial candidate.
