The Real Madrid manager who will be quitting the club in the next week to join Chelsea is hoping to take the Croatian playmaker Luka Modric with him out of Bernabeu.
Mourinho has proposed a bid of 30 million pounds for the player at Chelsea.
In a report by The Sun, the Special One is keen to crack a deal for Modric. Mourinho had paid 30 million pounds to take the player from White Lane to Spain less than a year ago.
Two years ago the Blues made bids of 22 million pounds and 27 million pounds for Modric, which Spurs rejected but now Chelsea is final to seal a deal with Los Blancos at 30 million pounds.
Modric was voted La Liga's worst signing of 2012 and has struggled to make a positive impact. But Mourinho is hopeful of Madrid being tempted to sell the player, the report added.
