The killer of murdered honeymoon bride Anni Dewani has died in prison while he was serving life sentence for the murder, says South Africa's correctional services department.

Xolile Mngeni's death comes amid trial of Briton Shrien Dewani, Anni Dewani's husband who has been denying charges of arranging his wife's murder.

According to the BBC, Mngeni died in the hospital section of the prison in Cape Town, said officials.

South Africa's correctional services department said that it would make a complete statement about his death today.
