Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang on Thursday called on the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Jitendra Singh and discussed various issues related to the development of the State as well as the current political scenario in Nagaland.
Zeliang expressed satisfaction that the DoNER Ministry has started taking up developmental projects on a fast track which has earned the Ministry all-round appreciation from all sections of society.
Earlier, as yet another major new initiative, Jitendra Singh launched a new hi-tech online "e- Portal" for submission, surveillance and follow up of development projects relating to Northeast falling under the category of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resource (NLCPR).
Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that he was glad to note that DoNER is one of the first ministries to have opted for hi-tech method of submission of projects and their follow up.
"This has a special relevance for the DoNER Ministry because this is a region based ministry and the projects are submitted by the eight different States of Northeast. This will also avoid complaints regarding delays or extraneous considerations including corruption, etc," Singh said.
Singh said that the DoNER Ministry is unique in the sense that it is the only ministry in Government of India which is region based and has stakes with every other Ministry.
"To this extent, the new portal will also help in keeping track of various stages of project activities among different Departments/Ministries including Planning Department of North Eastern State Governments, Line Ministries of Government of India, etc," he added.
In order to overcome delays, the portal will be programmed to send automatic computerized reminders to the State Governments and others concerned, he informed.
"The Portal launched by DoNER Ministry will also help in keeping surveillance on financial, physical and visual progress for timely completion of projects. This indeed is a major step to bring the people of Northeast closer to the governance of Northeast by the Government of India," Singh added.
The Secretary, DoNER, Dr R.Vijaykumar, Secretary DoPT, Sanjay Kothari, Economic Adviser DoNER, Brohmo Choudhury were present on the occasion.
