NCP says Kashmir issue can be solved only through dialogue

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Tariq Anwar on Friday said Pakistan has raised the issue of Kashmir at United Nations many times and failed to get support for its stance on it.

Anwar said the Kashmir issue can be solved through the 1972 Shimla Pact which forbids third-party intervention and mentions that it must be resolved bilaterally between India and Pakistan only.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, on Friday said that the Pakistan will highlight the Kashmir issue at the UN and other for a, as bilateralism envisaged in the Shimla Agreement has failed to achieve any progress.

He briefed the Senate about the issues to be raised during Sharif's visit to New York to attend the annual UN General Assembly session later this month.

Anwar further said there is cross-border terrorism in Kashmir, and we all know on whose direction it is going on. Our army and paramilitary forces are capable of stabilising the situation," he said.

"Our army is capable of stopping further infiltration of militants in Kashmir," Anwar said.

Pakistan violated the ceasefire on Thursday night in the Balakot Sector of Poonch, where one jawan and one civilian were injured.
